Crowns

A crown (often called a cap) is a porcelain or gold tooth made to completely cover or “cap” a badly decayed or damaged tooth. A crown can restore the shape and size, strengthen and or improve the appearance of a tooth. As a general rule if there is more filling than tooth a crown becomes the treatment of choice.

Crowns may be used to:

  • Replace a large filling when there is little tooth structure remaining
  • Protect a weak tooth from fracturing
  • Restore a fractured tooth
  • Attach a bridge
  • Cover a dental implant
  • Cover a discolored or poorly-shaped tooth
  • Cover a tooth that has had root canal treatment
